Meet the team
The ECR publications are mainly based on the views of Eddy Markus, chief analyst and founder of Interest & Currency Consultants (ICC) based in The Netherlands and suppliers of our international consultancy services
Edward Markus, Executive director/Chief analyst
After obtaining an economics degree Edward immediately became involved in managing a sizeable family fortune. Extensive training in currencies and interest rates enabled him to assume full responsibility for all interest and currency positions relating to these assets. In the early 1980s he switched from asset management to consultancy and established Interest & Currency Consultants (ICC) as an independent consultancy agency for businesses. Under his management it has grown into an agency specialising in treasury management, corporate & structured finance, cash management, bank relationship management and market outlook. Edward has closely followed the financial markets for over 30 years and is appreciated for his thought-provoking, often anti-consensus view on where financial markets are heading.
Arian Ververs, Managing Director
Since graduating in economic, public and company law from the University of Utrecht Arian has worked in international sales and marketing. After having spent two years at the head of direct sales programmes in the European hotel industry he joined ECR at the end of 1995 to set up a successful international sales department specifically geared to ECR's research activities.
Over the past few years he has managed ECR’s steady growth and became responsible for all commercial activities within the Netherlands as well as internationally. He is also the main person to contact for sales and consultancy professionals interested in pursuing a career at ECR.
Ron Albregt, Senior consultant
A law graduate, Ron has worked at several large banks and joined ING Financial Markets department in 1989, where he advised companies quoted on the stock exchange as well as mid corporate clients on interest rate and currency risk management. After a career spanning more than 20 years he left ING, taking the opportunity to extend his horizons and realize his ambition to sit on the ‘opposite’ side of the table. In September 2009 Ron started work for ICC. The wealth of his experience in treasury management is a great addition to ICC’s in-house expertise in this area.
Jan van den Hoek, Senior consultant
Jan holds a degree in Business Administration (specialising in financial-economic management) and entered the financial world as an investment analyst in 1997. He later switched to derivatives trading and from 2004 has traded on numerous European exchanges on behalf of various options companies in Amsterdam. Prior to joining ICC in 2006 he was sales manager for a stock-exchange software developer.
Andy Langenkamp, Political analyst
Andy monitors international political developments that could affect interest and currency rates. His findings are used internally in support of ICC's outlook on relevant events and are expressed externally in our Global Political Analysis service. Before joining ICC in 2008 Andy was a writer in the international editorial department of a leading Dutch newspaper and holds a degree in international organisation and international relations.
Ron Markus, Treasury management & Market outlook
Since the very beginning in 1979 Ron Markus has been one of the pillars of ICC. Over the years he has come into contact with many financial managers within the Dutch and international corporate sector whom he has introduced to ICC's services. Ron translates the market outlook as distilled by ICC analysts into a concrete interest and currency policy for our clients. Ron's pragmatic and lucid explanation of the various scenarios in the financial markets, form a bridge between our market outlook and the more technical treasury management advice that we provide.
Maarten Spek, Analyst financial markets
Maarten is a financial markets analyst specializing in interest-rate and currency developments within the G10 economies. He is co-author of ECR's publications on G10 interest-rate and currency developments and assists in the general operation of the analyst department.
