ECR has its roots more than 30 years ago when we started trading on behalf of a family office*. We soon realized that trading based on solely fundamental research did not give satisfactory results, especially during periods of more volatility and economic uncertainties. After a few months of nearly continuous rising equity prices, there is hardly any piece of research warning you for a trend reversal. However, one thing you know for sure is that at one day, a bull market turns into a bear market and vice versa. 

Combining fundamental research with chart technical analysis yields better results, as technical indicators or patterns often give warning signals for a possible trend reversal. Complemented with signals from the market itself gives an analytical framework, which is, in our view, superior to fundamental research or chart technical analysis alone.

Furthermore, we hold the opinion that monetary developments are as important as economic developments for stock prices. In other words, stock markets can rise in the event growth expectations are pointing south and a bear market could start well before growth expectations deteriorate.
